For some reason The Muskegon Chronicle gave the communications director of the DeVos-funded, anti-public education Education Action Group a column to brown-nose local Republicans in hopes of landing a job with Bill Huizenga.
In his latest piece, Steve Gunn spends his time sucking up to Twitter Pete Hoekstra with just a nod to any candidate other than his favorite and Cox:
One recent poll of likely Republican primary voters had Hoekstra 1 percentage point behind Cox and far ahead of Bouchard and Ann Arbor businessman Rick Snider.
Wa??!!
Oops! Sorry Stevie, it's Snyder. With a Y. Got it? Stick it in a neuron. If you want to confirm it, try Snyder's website.
What sort of newspaper and editorial team would give this schmuck a soapbox? Why would anyone listen to someone who can't even spell all the candidates' names correctly? Isn't that a minimal requirement for getting enough legitimacy for someone to take what one writes seriously? Some "Communications Director." The Old Party can have them, but why does the Chronicle feel the urge to foist him on the people of West Michigan?

It's a tepid endorsement for Bill Richards, but an endorsement none the less:
Yet, while he may not be any less conservative than Hansen on many issues, this former Navy underwater demolitions experts, who later in his military career rose to one of the highest non-commissioned officer ranks in the U.S. Army Reserve, shows streaks of political progressivism that we believe would be welcomed in the Legislature and in his district.

The Muskegon Chronicle endorsed Mary Valentine Sunday, writing:
Valentine ... has fought hard for the environment and for jobs, has helped boost Michigan's fledgling movie industry, and is a leader in providing constituent service for individuals who turn to her when all other avenues are exhausted.
On Friday, they endorsed Dan Scripps:
Active with the Center for Michigan, a bipartisan group leading a statewide effort to develop a common sense agenda for Michigan's future, Scripps is an outdoorsman who impressed our editorial board with his commitment to the Great Lakes and preservation of Michigan's natural resources. As a centrist Democrat, he'll be a good fit for his district.

The Muskegon Chronicle endorsed Barack Obama for president this past Sunday. I think it's the first Michigan paper to make a presidential endorsement.
From the editorial, National Crisis Cries Out for Best to Lead - Obama.
America is deeply troubled today. Our nation is in economic crisis, mired in debt, at war and adrift in a sea of global and domestic turmoil.... [W]e believe Obama has more potential than McCain to be the great president these times call for.
Over the months of this grueling campaign, Obama has demonstrated the leadership, compassion, intelligence and courage America expects from its leaders....
Then The Chronicle hammers McCain on pocket-book issues:
